10:23:42 From Suma : Hi, Suma – Product Manager from Melbourne www.linkedin.com/in/suma-chagalakonda
10:24:22 From Hannah Bee : Millenials have become the social punching bag for sure
10:24:39 From Hannah Bee : Haha took the words off my keyboard Sean!
10:24:43 From Doug Mann : Hi all, Doug Mann, Membership Sales & Services Manager at Victoria Racing Club – look forward to connecting – https://www.linkedin.com/in/doug-mann-905018a/
10:25:28 From Akhil Bhaskar : The spending power and willingness to spend among millenials are unmateched
10:28:42 From Graham Maher : Our chat room talked about millennials having less brand/club loyalty and being more aligned to individual/player brand and loyalty
10:29:31 From Tristan Liles : Jumping off to another meeting folks. Thanks Sean
10:30:25 From Paul Bains : Jarrad made a good point that Get Y/Z like to be involved with the content creation. Difference between taking their photo and giving them the phone to take the selfie
10:31:32 From Hannah Bee : Generally does that concept just overlap with the boom of ‘personal brand' as the worlds developed?
10:32:01 From David Mackay : @Hannah, yes, and coincides with changes in the control of media
10:32:04 From Hannah Bee : (Applicable to team vs. athlete loyaty, not to your note Paul sorry!)
10:32:31 From Suzy George : The ability to give instant, regular feedback and expect to be heard. They expect their feedback to influence the direction of the sports/brands/teams they follow
10:33:17 From Eric SanInocencio : When it comes to social interactions, the ability to wager (in the US anyway) on moments ad events will likely play a role in that.
10:33:43 From Hannah Bee : I also think there's a stronger connection in terms of the moral identity of a brand or athlete that someone follows, and a quick move away should those be at odds with your own.
10:34:46 From Paul Bains : Hannah, that’s partially powering the sporting leagues/teams stating their position on BLM for example where as in the past they might say sport and politics don’t mix
10:35:01 From Sophie Hornsey : The adaptation of the game to be more social friendly also reminds me of the adaptation of content in game for fans who will be at a game but also on their phone looking for more
10:35:02 From Hannah Bee : Completely agree Paul!
10:36:58 From Doug Mann : I feel like traditional membership models could be under pressure in younger generations…thinking there is a need for increased flexibility in packages
10:38:15 From Akhil Bhaskar : Just saw the tweet from AS Roma FC announcing the signing of Pedro and the video contained photos of missing people from around the world. Without much liking for the club I was attracted to the cause and followed their twitter account.
10:38:28 From Doug Mann : aligned values is spot on between brand and customer
10:38:36 From Hannah Bee : I also think it's important we don't confuse the LEGNTH of game with the APPETITE for content. We might want shorter, punchier games, but we also want to see what the atheltes are up to, daily even when they're not playing.
10:39:00 From Hannah Bee : *LENGTH (of course!)
10:40:45 From Paul Bains : I’m gen x but if the quality is there then the length doesn’t matter so much I believe but there’s too much average content to fill TV schedules
10:40:49 From David Mackay : @Hannah, I agree on length. Claims of short attention spans are rubbish, when I see my kids can play video and non-video games, or read for hours. It's about maintaining interest.
10:41:17 From Paul Bains : @David yup quality of the content/investment in the content
10:41:58 From Craig Green : Sport as a live product crosses generations but some sports are struggling with delivering a product that is sportainment and engages the different generations.
10:44:26 From Sophie Hornsey : It’s interesting because while tiktok may only be 60 seconds there is big attention going into the creation of the content which could take hours
10:44:42 From Graham Maher : Quality of content (either on/off field/court) is key!
10:44:52 From David Mackay : @Craig Sports have in the past been good at mass marketing to a homogenous audience. As sports increase their audiences they have to wrestle with the challenge that the audience is less homogenous.
10:45:28 From Paul Bains : Interesting that documentaries are working with a younger generation, it’s not just a nostalgia watch for the older folks
10:45:35 From Graham Maher : Thanks Sean, I have to run (virtually) to another call — thanks all for an engaging session! Have a great day!
10:47:43 From David Mackay : Fliptix
10:48:23 From Demelza Fellowes : Thanks everyone.. Got to run. Brilliant session again
10:48:51 From Paul Bains : The Gallagher Premiership in England, BT the broadcaster has given access to all teams season ticket holders for free
10:49:57 From Akhil Bhaskar : If time permits, ” How are teams looking to tackle the second screen experience that millennials are looking to have”
10:50:22 From Hannah Bee : Love this! ^ Twitch is great because there's direct real-time engagement for fans
10:50:59 From Krystal Dykes : Why do you think the Big Bash for example took off but AFLX not as much? Both codes have traditionalists, so I find it interesting
10:51:11 From Sophie Hornsey : Also if time permits – “can we rely on connecting with kids in order to persuade parents anymore?”
10:51:28 From Doug Mann : Yes agree Twitch will continue to grow rapidly…
10:52:13 From Sophie Hornsey : I think millennials are moving to a more curated public profile as opposed to sharing everything
10:52:17 From David Mackay : @Krystal, I think Big Bash had a head start because the 20/20 format had already gained credibility
10:52:26 From Jarrod Potter : AFLX seemed to struggle with finding its audience. Who were you going to barrack for? Big Bash still had city/state affiliations.
10:52:37 From Hannah Bee : @Sophie – that's a great point! It's more a persona than a person
10:52:58 From Doug Mann : Apologies, I've got to jump on a call. Thanks Sean and team for a great call.
10:53:00 From Sophie Hornsey : Exactly Hannah, we share who we want to be and how we want to be perceived so brands have to work into that
10:54:26 From Paul Bains : Looking forward to the Tour De France kicking off this weekend. One fo the most tradition sports
10:54:31 From nick holland : I just read Michael Jordan's Agents book the Bald Truth – Not Bad
10:55:25 From Nick Hulett : just finished ‘The Ride of a Lifetime’, Bob Iger’s book on his journey through Disney and leaderships lessons. enjoyed it
10:56:00 From Eric SanInocencio : Just finished ‘The Upstarts' on the founding of Uber and Airbnb. Fascinating look at the different styles each company and their founders took.
10:56:42 From Jarrod Potter : Been reading Footballistics by James Coventry. Head of data analytics in sport. Huge deep dive into the area and probably a bit over my head at times!
10:57:18 From Paul Bains : I’ll be watching the Tour De France which is as much a guide to France as a race to watch 🙂
11:00:09 From Felix Koehler : Have to jump off! Thanks as always Sean
11:00:38 From Krystal Dykes : Thanks @sean and all great discussion!
11:00:40 From Sophie Hornsey : Thanks Sean, have to race. Looking forward to next week!
11:00:42 From Karen Lunn : Thanks Sean, another great session!
