Twitter has bee getting taken over by sport for some time now, and we've previously discussed the connection between live sports events and Twitter:
With Twitter starting to push further into the Australian market, here's a look at ten of the AFL's best players to follow:
Scott Pendlebury – @SP_10
What's everyone thoughts on free agency so far? It's keeping AFL in the news everyday which they have to be enjoying. #FreeAgency #AFLTrades

The silky Collingwood midfielder is a good follow on Twitter, generally putting forth good topics of discussion from all over the sporting landscape.
Jobe Watson – @JobeWatson
Heading into @beforethegame for the grand final show @tedrichards25 has given me a hat to wear twitter.com/JobeWatson/sta…
— Jobe Watson (@JobeWatson) September 28, 2012
Essendon captain and Brownlow Medalist, Watson regularly engages with fans and friends on Twitter. Great way to show a side of your personality that the fans sometimes don't get to see.
Patrick Dangerfield
@bvince17 I believe Tippett is a very old wooden ship. Oh wait that's what adversity is. Sorry bern no idea. #ronburngundy
— patrick dangerfield (@dangerfield32) October 27, 2012
Crows speedster Patrick Dangerfield is as cheeky off-field as he is ferocious on-field. A bit of banter is never too far away from Danger's feed.
Ted Richards
Hi @qantasairways. Packing for my Syd to New York flight Monday morning. It turns out I'll stoop pretty low to try get an upgrade. #Subtle — Ted Richards (@tedrichards25) October 14, 2012
Newly-crown AFL premier and All-Australian, Sydney's Ted Richards seems to fancy himself as a funny man, regularly serving up some comedy such as this belter. He also links to his blog, The Richards Report, that appears on the Swans' website throughout the season.
Jack Riewoldt
Thanks to the NY Yankees winning tonight just for me!! #hotdogs #game5 twitter.com/JackRiewoldt08… — Jack Riewoldt(@JackRiewoldt08) October 13, 2012
Richmond's Jack Riewoldt has the personality that all the truly great forwards possess: Confidence, aggression and a touch of cheek. He delivers it all on Twitter, too.
Gary Ablett Jr.
Strong man session ???? instagr.am/p/QTzKg_JPl_/ — Gary Ablett Jnr (@GaryAblettJnr) October 3, 2012
Suns captain Gary Ablett Jr. is another who gives fans a look into his life off the field. Good interaction with fans from the Brownlow Medalist.
Nic Naitanui
Packin for the US.cant wait to see some games #essentials #jerseys #jordans #footy instagr.am/p/ROqb75hqzd/ — Nic Naitanui (@RealNaitanui) October 26, 2012
If the dreadlocks and on-field pizzazz weren't a dead giveaway, Nic Naitanui is a pretty rad dude. Pretty active on Twitter and good at interacting with followers like most players on this list.
Marc Murphy
Just caught up with Taylia at Ronald McDonald House #macpaclockerz.com/s/245923568 — Marc Murphy (@marcmurphy3) September 20, 2012
Carlton's Marc Murphy is one of the best AFL players in terms of replying to fans and being actively engaged. A quick look at his feed will show that he might triple Carlton's membership base at the rate he is retweeting.
Robert Murphy
What a freakin' good game…. But hardly any rascal behavior…#perspective — Bob Murphy (@BobMurphy02) September 29, 2012
If you enjoy Bob Murphy on AFL 360, you'll enjoy his work on Twitter.
Brock McLean
That's a really good barbed wire tattoo on your arm…. Said no one ever!!
— Brock McLean (@dirty_14) October 25, 2012
Forget the controversy that surrounded Brock earlier this year with his misguided Twitter use. McLean has some genuinely good banter on Twitter. He just need to clean up the language and forget about the trolls.
