As we enter the second week of competition, the action on the track and in the field will start to heat up. We've already watched the incomparable Usain Bolt win gold in the 100m sprint with a new Olympic record, but there is still plenty of action to come. Here, we highlight the best ten accounts to follow on Twitter from the track and field.

1 – Usain Bolt (@usainbolt)

How could we go past Usain Bolt? He's one of the world's most exciting athletes and definitely it's quickest, as well as being pretty active on social media. It doesn't affect his performance though, it seems.

2 – Yohan Blake (@yohanblake)

Fellow Jamaican speedster Yohan Blake is just as phenomenal on the track as Usain is. Make sure you catch him in the 200m sprint heats (and no doubt final) later tonight.

3 – Lolo Jones (@lolojones)

American Lolo Jones is one of Sally Pearson's biggest threats to Olympic Gold in the hurdles, but she is definitely worth a follow on Twitter.

4 – Steven Solomon (@stevesolo10)

Aussie runner Steven Solomon beat all expectations to reach the Men's 400m final, putting up a great fight this morning. At just 19 years of age, the young Aussie has an extremely bright future. Well done, Steve.

5 – Athletics Australia (@AthsAust)

The official account for Athletics Australia is a great follow to keep up with all the Aussies who are competing in London.

6 – John Steffensen (@JohnSteffensen)

There has been some drama surrounding John Steffensen since the Olympics began, but hopefully it can all be put aside and John, along with teenage sensation Steven Solomon, can put on a great show in the men's 4x400m relay.

7 – Justin Gatlin (@justingatlin)

American sprinter Justin Gatlin came in third in the Men's 100m final, and will line up for the US again in the 4x100m relay. Has previously won Olympic Gold, so could be a threat to the Jamaicans in the relay.

8 – Alana Boyd (@_AlanaBoyd)

Aussie girl Alana Boyd did us proud making the pole vault final, but unfortunately it just didn't go her way. Well done on a great effort, Alana.

 

9 – Lauren Boden (@LaurenBoden)

Another Aussie girl who didn't quite get the result she was after, Lauren Boden should still be proud of her efforts.

10 – Asafa Powell (@officialasafa)

The world record holder for the most sub-10 second 100m sprints, Asafa Powell didn't run as planned in the 100m final. Asafa was very gracious in defeat however, and will look to overcome his injury to join Team Jamaica in the Men's 4x100m relay.
